Rainy skies didn't dampen spirits at the Des Moines Arts Festival on Friday. ISU students made up a large portion of the Emerging Iowa Artists Program at the Des Moines Arts Festival this weekend. Fifteen of the 24 Emerging Artists chosen for the festival were ISU College of Design students or recent graduates, according to the College of Design Web site.

Every once in a while, a production that has a huge build-up in hype before its release lives up to all the expectations placed on it and is worth the months of trailers and commercials. Will Smith's latest movie, "Hancock," is not that production.

Smith plays Hancock, an amnesiac who wants to remember what happened to his life, who he is and why his body is completely impervious to harm.

SIUE ceramics camp teaches art to all ages

Graduate student Evan Wagman taught the ceramics camp held at SIUE in the week of June 16 and taught the elements of ceramics to the children one on one.

Young boys and girls from grades 6 to 12 arrived at SIUE to learn some crafty skills to better make their clay creations.

The festival will take place in Des Moines' Western Gateway Park, June 27-29.

"It's the largest cultural event in Iowa," said Stephen King, executive director of the Des Moines Arts Festival.

My ears, not to mention my self-esteem, were tired and battered after listening to the newest album from G-Unit, Terminate on Sight (T.O.S.), set to be released today. It is an album riddled with all the bad stereotypes of rap - loud and obnoxious beats, references to violence and drugs, and of course the unrelenting objectification of women.

Williams will begin her summer tour on June 28 opening for John Mellencamp in Milwaukee before coming to Iowa City's Englert Theatre.
