Once the women's soccer team squeaked into the postseason, it decided to stay for a while, knocking off Northern Colorado University 1-0 in the round of 24 Wednesday.
In the 61st minute, sophomore Ellen Wright attacked down the right side of the field and scored the game's only goal with assists from junior Angie Schuhler and senior Becky Ojile.
Freshman Lisa Schmalz was solid in goal for Truman, allowing no goals and picking up five saves.
With the victory, the 'Dogs (16-2-2) advance to the Sweet Sixteen to take on the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
After the long road trip to Greeley, Colo., for the game against Northern Colorado, the 'Dogs will travel to Omaha, Neb., for the game on Saturday.
Nebraska-Omaha appears to be a formidable opponent for the Bulldogs.
The Mavericks sport a 19-0-0 record and already have defeated the Bulldogs this year once by the score of 3-0.
Overall, the Mavericks hold a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series against Truman.
Nebraska-Omaha is led by the North Central Conference player of the year, Stephanie Kruse, who has scored 20 goals with 5 assists this year.
The 'Dogs are led by sophomore Sara Murray, who is in possession of the team high in goals and assists with nine of each.
A playoff appearance was far from certain for the 'Dogs as the end of the regular season came to a close, but decisive victories over Missouri Southern State College (Joplin) 4-0 and Central Missouri State University (Warrensburg) 1-0 gave the Bulldogs the chance to excel at postseason play.
Last season the 'Dogs made the Elite Eight before losing to Northern Kentucky University, 2-0.
