The old saying in sports goes, "Wait 'til next year."

Wait is exactly what the Bulldogs will have to do as Washburn eliminated the Truman from the NCAA tournament with a 3-1 victory in the South Central Regional championship game tonight at Pershing Arena.

In a match that featured 31 ties and 19 lead changes, the Bulldogs jumped out to a quick lead by taking game one 30-27, but Washburn was able to come back and take the next three games behind the strength of solid defensive play. The Lady Blues won a back-and-forth game two, which was very similar to game one. The Lady Blues were able to expose weaknesses in the Bulldog backcourt in game three and four to finish off the match.

Truman head coach Jason Skoch said the biggest difference in game 1 as opposed to games 2, 3 and 4 was Truman not being able to convert their digs.

"There were a lot of long rallies," Skoch said. "This is not just rhetoric, Washburn played great. They had some great hustle plays. I thought the biggest difference was that we had more quality digs than them and we didn't convert them. Honestly it was that simple. For some reason we did not convert."

The Lady Blues out-dug the Bulldogs 110-85.

Wahburn head coach Chris Herron said that in games two through four, Washburn was able to expose Truman a bit.

"We thought we could exploit a couple of things they did defensively," Herron said. "We got a couple of tips in areas that we hadn't gotten in game 1. We got out blocked 9-2 in the first game so we knew that we had to start throwing more balls at them."

This was the Bulldogs second loss of the season to the Lady Blues. On October 2, Washburn overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Bulldogs 3-2 at Pershing.

The Lady Blues were able to control All-MIAA middle hitter junior Allie Cherven and junior outside hitter Eli Medina. Cherven struggled offensively throughout the match and had just 5 kills and a .042 hitting percentage. Her defense was solid, however, as she had a hand in 14 blocks. Medina reached double figures in kills with 10 but hit just .064 for the match.
